The Gumbo Pot
Simply perfect Cajun cooking has made this spot an all-time favorite for locals and visitors alike. The beignets are phenomenal (try them drizzled with chocolate!), the gumbo is fantastic, the po’boys are perfect. Be warned: when they tell you that the blackened dishes (fish, chicken, shrimp, even a meat loaf po’boy) are hot, they speak the truth. (Critic Favorite)

Du-par's Pie Shop
A tradition nearly as old as the Market itself, Du-par’s Pie Shop is legendary. They bake fresh daily and they have such exquisite skill that even the usual choices – an apple pie or a traditional lemon meringue – are decidedly more flavorful than even dedicated pie lovers expect. For those planning holiday fare, here’s an insider’s tip: – locals traditionally order so many pies for Thanksgiving and the holidays from Du-par’s that fresh stacks of pies often climb to the ceiling: ordering early is a wise choice indeed.

Bennett's Ice Cream
Bennett’s Ice Cream is one of the last of a vanishing tradition: Scott Bennett and his staff make their own ice cream from fresh ingredients mixed on the spot (you can watch the process through Bennett’s kitchen window). The result is so fine that Bennett's regularly wins awards (there are Blue Ribbons all over the shop). The flavors are also wonderfully inventive – try Scott’s cabernet sauvignon sorbet or his pumpkin ice cream. Click here to learn about Scott Bennett, owner of Bennett's Ice Cream.
